What style is the home you are selling?

IIHS Blog·Naomi Findlay·May 9, 2025· 2 minutes
May clients that I visit ask me if I have furniture and items in the specific style of their home.  This could vary from Victorian, Hamptons, modern, country, shabby chic…..the list goes on. Which made me think about how I manage to work with such a wide cross section of homes and yet have a core selection of stock that I use again and again.  I realised that it is all about being open minded and visiting the property to see what the homes features are and also how the existing furniture and items fit within the home and its style.

In many cases clients have given themselves a label, style or category that might not be totally accurate so it is always best to visit the site and get to know the home and the client to make sure that you are bang on the money with your choice of stock.

Once you have a clear picture of what the home style is think outside the square. For example, check out the similarities between the following styles.
  • Country and Industrial both have timber and metal features
  • Modern and Hamptons can both feature white furniture
  • Scanandivan and beach homes both feature clean timber lines and pops of colour.
The list could go on and on. So next time you are faced with a home that has a style you are not sure you are familiar with, think outside the box and look for commonalities with other styles. Be imaginative!
