Waukivory Estate | Ultimate Bathroom & Ensuite Makeover

Before and After Transformations·Naomi Findlay·May 9, 2025· 4 minutes

Next up, we’re tackling the bathrooms!

Widely considered the throne room of the house, it was extremely important to us that the bathrooms not only fit into the exquisite country classic style we were going for with the rest of the house, but also showed off the gorgeous views of the property to their fullest potential.

(possibly) Controversial bathroom reno choice: no tiling at all!

We used the same scratch and waterproof vinyl plank flooring from Gerflor, allowing us to save on cost and better tie into the country classic style of the bedrooms.

Vinyl wooden plank flooring: water and scratch-proof!

Similarly, we used the same FC sheeting and white paint for the walls for greater stylistic cohesion with the rest of the property as well!

We had a vision for the property: the ability to house a large family, or even two smaller families, which would require adequate facilities.

Therefore, when drawing up plans, we worked to squeeze in an extra bathroom as well as a separate WC.
The last thing we would want would be for people having to line up to use the bathroom, this is a holiday home after all!

Before...
...And after!

There were a few things we absolutely needed in the bathrooms:

  • A freestanding clawfoot bath, taking inspiration from the original facilities and design of the country house, and
  • Amazing large windows to show off the view

The layout of each bathroom was determined by the view of the space. We wanted it so that anyone soaking in the bath would be able to enjoy the gorgeous views of the property!

Additionally, unlike small frosted city windows, we put in large clear windows that allow you to really enjoy the country landscape!

When selecting a vanity, there were a few things to keep in mind:

Botanicals to liven the place up, and gorgeous brass taps from Momo!
  • Textural diversity:
    - Marbled white countertops tied into the simple white theme of the space, however creating a bit of interest with the subtle marbling detail.
    - Farmhouse door texture of the bathroom door mimicked in the vanity for textural cohesion.
    - Classic brass hardware and handles from Momo to further emphasise that classic charm!
  • Ample storage space:
The space was small, and so it was extremely important to us that we included plenty of storage that wouldn’t clutter the room.
  • Increasing the feel of spaciousness:
    - A floating wall-hung vanity gave the space an open, spacious vibe, further avoiding the notion of clutter.
    - The simple white colour was unobtrusive and allowed for the illusion of more space.
    - Large mirrors also worked to further open up the room.

Finally, decorating!

Wooden features such as countertop decorations and handmade wooden furniture tied into the flooring, the thrifted wooden furniture in the bedrooms as well as referenced the humble country cottage style we were going for!

Bath-side stool we made from a tree found on the property!

Candles created a soft, dreamy ambient lighting, perfect for taking a hot bubble bath while enjoying the dazzling country view!

Botanicals and pot plants brought a bit of the outdoors into the comfort of indoor living!

Final words:

Speaking with Mr. Ferris post bathroom reno, he emphasised the beautiful work done on the 300mm high skirting as well as the sheer functionality and sturdiness of each of the bathroom spaces!

He says we’ve "done alright", and coming from a man of few words, we know to take it as the compliment it is.

Can’t wait to do the next rooms!
