More than halfway done, the next space to tackle was the living and dining area!

Starting from scratch!
Much like the rest of the reno so far, nothing from the original house was salvageable. This meant once again, we had to demolish (tag Ferris) and start from scratch.
We hit our first wall (pun intended) at demolition. As it turned out, the walls and floors in the living and dining space had taken some severe termite damage over the years.
This meant our reno time was going to be longer than expected due to the foundational structure having to be rebuilt.
Despite this, we kept our heads held high, back to the drawing board, and new plans were made!
Getting into it!
The original space, whilst being divided up weirdly, definitely boasted a few features we HAD to keep and make use of. A gorgeous original fireplace, bringing warmth and classic country comfort to the space,
as well as north-facing windows with a picture-perfect view of the valley (probably the best in the house), really showing off the beauty and serenity of the property!
We decided that to maximise on space and bring that same openness as the other rooms, this area needed to be open plan, allowing for ample communal space for sitting as well as moving through!
Large Cotton’s Glass windows really lightened and opened up the space!
Once again, we used the same Gerflor vinyl plank flooring, high skirts, and FC sheeting and battening on the walls and ceiling. This allowing us to save on cost as well as maintain consistency with the other rooms of the house.
It’d been a huge hit and so we stuck with it!

When painting, we used Taubman's Alpine Magic , using semi-gloss on all the timber work and low sheen on the walls and ceiling.
To get around the issue of space regarding the dining area, we built a banquette style seating area into the corner under the window, accompanying it with a large square dining table.

The high skirting finish on the seating really tied it into the space, as though it has been there the whole time!
This clever utilisation of space managed to save us 600-800mm of chair and walking space!
Now for our favourite part,
Styling the space!
Neutral to dark toned furniture that sat complimentarily to the cool greens of the countryside right out the window.

Thrifted wooden furniture to tie into the wood planked flooring and the general rustic country vibe of the house!
White linen cushions tying into the linens and dreamy white aesthetics of the other rooms, creating the perfect soft warm environment.
A mixture of fresh and dried botanicals, low maintenance and perfect for bringing a bit of the farm into the home!

Bubbly Ferris commented on the large windows and the expansive view they provide, and we couldn’t agree more! Overlooking the valley and the dam, they also bring in plenty of gorgeous natural light, reflecting wonderfully off the furniture and creating a beautiful bright space!
If we didn’t know any better, we might say that he even likes the space!
This place was really in the pits before we started, and we could not be more in love with the new life we have breathed into it!
