How to have a Happy Workplace

March 4, 2015 by Naomi

When you start your own business and transition from working for yourself to having others working for you, there are many dos and don’ts to remember! You will want to keep your employees on track and inline but at the same time you want to make sure they are feeling important and rewarded. Time and time again it has been proved that happy workers are better workers. So check out the top tips below on how to get the most out of your employees.

Business team with hands together - teamwork concepts

Delegate some of your jobs to your employees so that you can focus on the more important aspects of the business. Doing this will make sure your company can grow.

  1. Some of the most successful companies are those who have their employees and owners working closely together. As a team you can solve problems much quicker.
  2. Make sure you have an employee friendly work environment, so that your workers are happy and you can increase productivity.
  3. State all your business’ rules clearly (both in conversation and in writing). You need to be firm with the rules of the company—for example, no personal calls on company phone lines. Be sure to look at things from all angles. What could your employees potentially do that would hurt business?
  4. Set a dress code, parking spaces, and any other company policies that you deem important.
  5. Have the same rules for all employees—no playing favorites. By treating all of your employees equally from the start, you give them all an equal chance to succeed professionally.
  6. As your employees continue to work for you, you will want to consider giving some more responsibility than others. This is why it is important to have a management plan. Promotions should always go to the most qualified candidate, regardless of your personal relationships.
  7. Make changes to your employee rules if necessary. For example, problems may arise that you have not initially addressed. Distribute the new policy to all employees, not just the ones who it is immediately affecting.
