How Sustainable is Your Home Staging Business?

October 24, 2016 by Naomi

The home staging revolution in Australia is well and truly underway and we can only expect it to get bigger and better. There is also a recent increase in the awareness of sustainability in Australia. Sustainable energy, sustainable products of every kind. As a globe we want to feel as if everything we use can be used for something else, that we have stopped destroying the plant and instead are trying our best to use as minimal resources as we can from it. Think about all the reward programs companies have for returning empty projects such as make up and skin care containers, printer cartridges, mobile phones and so much more. So, what can you do to ensure your home staging business is sustainable?

  • Go digital: being highly present on social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are great ways to avoid using paper cards and flyers. Instead of physically mailing your clients anything, email them instead. If you are doing a presentation or pitch to get new business make sure you have the email address of those who are attending the event prior so you can email them any links or references they might need.
  • Reuse old products for transport: companies have a lot of rubbish, home staging companies in particular end up with a stack of once used rubble wrap and cardboard boxes that could easily end up in the bin. Instead of chucking out these items though use them to transport goods to and from installs and removals. Use the plastic as covers for items in your warehouse. Reusing plastics and materials until they are no good are great ways to reduce your rubbish and ensure that everything you use is getting the longest life possible.
  • Use alternative energy sources: at your HQ try and implement some alternative energy sources to ensure you are not polluting the environment. While solar energy may not be cost effective for a business it sure does make a statement, as does using a water tank.
  • Align yourself with other sustainable companies: participating in global movements to become more sustainable and encouraging your audience and clients to do the same thing are great ways to spread a strong message about the importance of having a sustainable business. Being public about your participation in Earth Hour, Clean Up Australia Day, Keep Australia Beautiful Week and so on are easy ways to ensure that your input in becoming a sustainable company is digitalised and recorded.
