Symposium Speaker Spotlight – Tara O’Connell

March 18, 2016 by Naomi

Make you business sign online with Tara O’Connell.  So excited to have Tara as one of the Symposium Speaker June 11-12 Sydney

TARA-5
Why it’s important to have an online presence no matter what your business is

The power of the internet is something previously unseen in human history. No one would have ever thought that a single tweet, YouTube video or Facebook post could actually cause a change in society. Alas, the internet is a major, if not one of the biggest, parts of our lives today. In terms of business, it is absolutely essential to have an online presence and join in with all the trends and new social platforms to stay in front of your competitors.

Tara O’Connell’s profession is teaching small to medium businesses how to shine in the digital world. Naomi Findlay interviewed Tara about the importance of the digital space for business. According to Tara, she helps businesses:

“stand out from the online crowd because there are 25 million online businesses in the world. So if you have an online presence you’re counted in that. That means that you’ve basically got a hell of a lot of competitors out there and you need to find some really simple, very low cost strategies to shine brighter than all the other competitors so more customers choose you”.

Now, you might be thinking, ‘not every area of business can benefit from having an online platform can they?’ But the truth is that they can.

Having a website and social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram dramatically expands your possible clients, gives your business more exposure and will actually give you a lot more free time.

As Tara explained, automated data bases for emails and scheduling social media posts will give you the best of both worlds: the client will feel like they have formed a relationship with your business through automated responses and posts while you only have to do half the work!

This way you’re posting to your largest possible audience without all the hard work of phone calls, emailing back immediately and unnecessary meetings.
Another reason why it’s super important to have an online presence that Tara touched on is the idea of connections.

“If you go in and you want to buy a cook book as a gift to someone, you physically go into the book shop and you’re in the cook book section and you can see two books. One of them is $59.95 and it’s been written by Jamie Oliver. The other is $39.95 and it’s been written by Tom Gill. You’re going to get Jamie’s book because you know him and trust him. Now, Tom Gill might be amazing. He might have the best recipes, completely fabulous. But you haven’t even opened Tom Gill’s book because you don’t know him, you don’t like him, because you don’t know him and you don’t trust him because you don’t know him or like him.”

When applying this idea to business, if someone sees advertisements for your business all over social media, see’s your business always posting photos or status’s, when it comes time for them to utilise a business in your area, chances are they are going to think of you automatically.

So, in summary, having an online presence in business is super important because it can promote your business without you having to do half the work and will result in your business gaining more success and allow you to stand out from the crowd.
