How To Bring The Light In

December 3, 2019 by Naomi Findley

How To Bring The Light In

Smoke and pet smells… Two of the most-obvious turn-offs for buyers!

However, the other most significant factor that loses the interest of buyers, is a dark and cold property.

Bringing the light in, fills a room with brightness, which is an essential step when preparing your home for the market.

So, here are my top 9 tips on how you can ensure you never leave your buyers in the dark!

1. Increase the wattage of the bulbs in existing lights.

It is important not to exceed the manufacturers’ recommendations.

2. Remove sheer curtains that may be over the blinds in the room.

They may be thin but they filter out quite a bit of light.

3. Remove any heavy shade cloth on external fly screens.

4. Open external window shutters.

5. Maximise your skylights.

Ensure your skylights or sky tubes have clean and transparent filters to maximise the light they let in.

6. Clean, clean, clean!

No matter what wattage bulbs you use, you will not light up a room if the light shade is full of dirt and dead bugs.  So get them all down and give them a good scrub to make sure the light fittings and shades are clean.

7. Accessorise with light coloured soft furnishings.

Light coloured soft furnishings help to reflect the light around the room.

8. Add accent lighting.

Table and bedside lamps aren’t just a gorgeous accessory, they also fill a room with light.

9. Incorporate a floor lamp.

Living spaces and reading corners are the perfect places for a floor lamp. It will help create a layered and intimate space, as well as, help brighten a dim room.
